headboard makeover {add some paint!}

November 10, 2010 by Lindsey 1 Comment

It was just another day for me scrolling through and seeing what bargains I could find on Craigslist. In an instant it went from just another day to a phone call to Al to get some rope and bungee cords and get in the car. He was going on a field trip. There was a posting for a free queen sized headboard that was unfinished. I was almost drooling.

The wonderful husband he is, got in the car, bungees in tow and headed north to get the headboard. He held on for dear life on the drive home, with one arm out the window trying to hold the headboard that was tied to the roof. I think I got a lecture that night about how queen sized headboard don’t really fit in or on small gold cars.

He got home safely and I had this beauty to work with:

We sanded it up a little, primed it, and painted it black.

Took a few hours to complete the whole project and it’s just beautiful. Fit in the room great and works much better than the platform bed we previously had. I was starting to feel like I was sleeping on the floor that platform was so low.

You’ll notice the drapes behind the headboard. We hung those because there was this god awful window on that wall. There was no way of opening it and it was the ugliest thing ever, not to mention that it wasn’t centered on the wall. So we covered it. We have a large bay window in the room that provides enough natural light anyway. I’m quite satisfied with the entire setup. The headboard came it at a whopping $0.00. Free headboard + paint and primer from the basement = beautiful bedroom!
