reusing Flor sample tiles

For quite a while now I’ve been going back and forth about what to do with our entryway. It’s so small, certainly not large enough to be cluttered with shoes and boots. But, you also have to walk through it to get from the kitchen to the living room, so I knew I wanted some sort of comfiness under those toes.

Well, I was in the right place at the right time a few weeks ago. The family I was babysitting for was just about to toss out a large bag full of carpet tile samples from Flor that they no longer needed. I jumped on the opportunity because I knew I’d find some use for them. I never thought there would be enough for the whole entryway. At the time I was thinking more along the lines of a small rug in front of the kitchen sink.

I got to work piecing them together. I know it looks like there was absolutely no system to it but I promise, there was. I made sure not to put similar colors or similar textures next to each other. The high traffic style tiles I placed closer to the front door, so we can easily wipe our feet on them.

However, when my main man Al went ahead and got to sticking them all together he didn’t realize that there was a science to my madness. A few of them got mixed around so you will see some colors and textures next to each other.

Overall though it’s a big crazy mess and we absolutely love it. It was the perfect pop of colors and textures that we needed for that dreary, dark, strangely placed entryway. One of us definitely comments on our love for it every time we walk on it.

Bridget and Carl (who generously donated these to us) have an amazing entryway carpet using Flor sample tiles. Such a great use of the sample tiles for smaller spaces. Thank you SO much Bridget and Carl!!
