We needed a new bed so we just took the plunge and went and got ourselves a Tempur-Pedic. It kind of hurts to pay that much for a bed but it’s worth the money if it’s the right bed for you.
First, I got a great deal on bedding at Kohl’s after Thanksgiving and it was exactly what I wanted. Light gray with a little bit of a pattern in it to mix well with the gray coverlet we already have. I think after sales and coupons I paid about $50. Also, this is real life people, I didn’t get the iron out to take these photos, sorry.
We grabbed the headboard from Amazon. I didn’t want anything too bulky and also didn’t want to spend a ton on an upholstered headboard. I just feel like they collect dust and that grosses me out so we went with an inexpensive one. So far it’s been great. Easy to put together and we’ve gotten loads of compliments on it.
Now, for the bed, we went with the Tempur-Pedic Rhapsody Breeze after spending a few hours evaluating the options. This bed, and our last one, were both floor models which I like for two reasons (and you might think it’s the nastiest thing ever and that’s cool). It’s about half the price which makes a bed this expensive a little more affordable and it’s already off gassed since it’s been out on the floor. Meaning less toxins floating through your house when it arrives.
Now, you may think it’s gross and that’s totally cool if it’s not your jam, but here’s the thing. With the Tempur-Pedic there’s a cover over the actual mattress. So I unzipped that and washed it in the hottest wash setting. Also, in the store there are head and foot protectors on the bed when people test it out, so that keeps them a little cleaner too. And, we also always use a mattress cover as it extends the life of your mattress so that’s another layer too.
Lastly, if you stay in a hotel then you’ve slept on a bed that had a lot of bodies sleeping, sweating, drooling, etc. It doesn’t seem so bad to have a bed that has someone on it for an average of like a minute and they’re not actually sleeping (when all those gross things happen).
Anyway, I’m not here to convince you about bed buying practices but did want to share our experience. I’m here to tell you that I LOVE this bed and have never slept better, but Al seems to be having a hard time adjusting. Which is interesting, because I was on the fence when we bought it and he loved it. We’ll see over the next few months if we fully adjust. For now though, I’m enjoying the great sleep I’ve been getting!
