After staring at the hideous mini blinds masking the beautiful bay window in our living room for months and not wanting to dump a fortune into curtains or roman shades, I found this DIY option. It was time consuming the first time around and it needed a lot of concentration and attention to detail, but the end result was fabulous!
By the time I was on my third one it was a cinch! Alright, maybe not a cinch, but it did get easier!
You can use any fabric you choose, but I suggest a lighter weight one. I had found these gorgeous vintage drapes at an antique store for a great price. Problem was, they were too short for the windows. So I unstitched all the pleats at the top and started cutting them up. With the mini blind that was already on the window, I used the vintage fabric to create a the shades.
When making these you have the option to just leave the back out in the open or to cover it. Since our window is in the front of the house I didn’t want everyone who walked by to see the strings of the mini blind. So with left over fabric from the pillows I made, I covered the back of them. I also used a ribbon to cover the seams. You can use whatever you choose. So, follow the great instructions above and send me photos of your final products. Enjoy!
