For the most part I have pretty normal skin. But living in Colorado, well, I don’t think anyone has normal skin here. It’s so dry that there’s no way around needing to slather your skin in lotion constantly. I’ve yet to find a store-bought lotion with healthy ingredients, that actually works, doesn’t smell weird and is reasonably priced. Maybe I’m being too picky?!
I’ve been wanting to try out coconut oil as lotion for a while and have just never got around to making it. Last weekend I experimented and I have to say, I’m incredibly pleased! This process was a whole lot easier than I thought and it actually does moisturize my skin well – even my face! Actually, my face probably took to it best.
With just two simple ingredients (that you may already have on hand) you get a homemade body lotion, with ingredients you can pronounce and a product that actually does moisturize (a lot of conventional lotions actually dry your skin out more) for a price that is hard to beat.
Mix one cup of coconut oil with one teaspoon of olive oil in a bowl. Whip with a hand mixer or stand mixer for eight minutes. Gradually the mixture will become a light, whipped consistency. Add to a reusable container and use as needed. A small amount goes a very long way, so don’t over use!
And note, the consistency is not the same as a conventional lotion. It feels oily at first but absorbs very quickly. Good luck if you try it out!
