Spring is on its way, as we here in Boston experienced yesterday with a beautiful 60 degree day. At least we can hope and pray that the sun keeps shining and the temp keeps rising. To kick off the Spring season a good cleaning day is in order! I’m a sucker for “Spring Cleaning Day.” You would think my house is a disaster and I NEED this day every Spring, but that’s not the case. I’m a neat freak and I really just use the start of Spring as an excuse to open all the windows, air out the house and bust out some good cleaning.
Spring cleaning is so much greater than just your ordinary weekend cleaning session. It’s a great time to really dig deep in your home, re-purpose, donate, and recycle things. I wanted to share a quick list of cleaning to dos and projects to help kick start your cleaning day.
- Organize all closets and pile items into keep, donate, sell, re-purpose.
- Do the same with the basement, under the bed and attic.
- Go through everyone’s entire wardrobe in the house and donate unworn items and/or items that don’t fit.
- Neatly organize the “keep” items back into their places.
- Check out Craigslist and Goodwill Stores for inexpensive storage options.
- Be creative too, use boxes and crates that you have around the house to organize items.
- Clean, clean, clean! Open the windows, move the furniture, wash the floors, launder fabrics (curtains, pillow covers, etc.).
- Donate unused, non-expired items from your kitchen pantry.
- Clean out the fridge of expired, moldy and unused items.
- Toss expired meds and health and beauty products.
- Heck, you’re on a roll, go clean out your car!
I’ll keep adding to the list as more things come up, but I encourage you to share any other tips you have for a successful Spring Cleaning Day. It’s best to make a list before you start the cleaning process so you know what needs to be done and you can easily see your progress down the list. And, please do share the cleaning day chore you can’t standdddddd! Mine is for sure, cleaning the baseboard heaters…I’m pretty sure that was the worst job growing up. Happy cleaning!
