You’ve read about my other adventures in dyeing clothes here and here. This time I decided to take a white cotton tunic like dress and dye it a pinkish color. The dress was a hand me down (is it a hand me up if I’m older?!) from my sister and I love the style and fit of it.
However, I figured if it were a color I would get more use out of it and there was a tad less risk of me staining the thing terribly. There was already a tiny stain on the back of the neck, it was rust color which leads me to think it was from the washer or dryer, so now that it’s a color you can’t see it at all.
Whenever I dye clothing I always just follow the instructions on the dye container. I have no secrets, however, I have realized that the Rit Dye always comes out much lighter in color than the container displays. Anyone know why that is? This time I didn’t mind. I set out to make the dress a deep red color and it turned out a pretty pink, which I also really like.
Maybe I’m adding too much water? I typically dye clothing in a bucket but I think next time around I’ll try doing it in the washing machine. Less messy, lower maintenance and hopefully a better end result.
