Seeing as though I’m on this life long mission to save space in every way possible, while being entirely clutter free, I’ve been considering those space saving bags that you vacuum the air out of. I’ve been weighing out the pros and cons and still can’t make a decision if they’re worth it.
Space saving: check, for sure. Convenience: not too sure. Is it going to be annoying to have to pull out the vacuum every time I want something in one of the bags? I understand the main use is for off season clothing and extra blankets and bedding, so does that mean it’s probably worth it to make the purchase?
I figure it’s not like I’m going to be dropping a bunch of Benjamins for them so I may just try them anyway. Has anyone ever used them before? I’d love to hear any thoughts about the space saving abilities and if you think they’re worth it or not.

Linds, have been using them for a few seasons now and love them. FYI, the Jumbo bag will hold an ENORMOUS amount of clothes, so much in fact that even when the air is removed it is way to heavy to move so my suggestion is to use that one for bedding or such. Worth the money and as you go camping and travel the ones that you roll the air out of are great for space saving and they are water and dirt proof, bug proof too.

There are space saver bags where you roll them up to squeeze the air out like rolling up a sleeping bag (I know from girl scouts you are a pro at this). I used them for when I went abroad to fit all my clothes in one suitcase. The didn’t work as well on the return trip, so not sure if they are only intended for one use, or maybe the technology has gotten better.

Space bags got me through four years of moving in and out of college dorms/apartments! Saved me lots of space packing up the car. I’m also considering using them again for extra blankets, towels, and winter coats to make some extra room in my 300 sq foot apartment. I say go for it!

We haven’t had as much luck with the space bags. SAved some space for us when we moved, but I think I was trying to put too much stuff in them because I ended up with awkward, lumpy bags! Also, my cats would play with them while we were packing and put a few holes in them, rendering them useless. Works for a lot of people but I don’t think we will be going out to buy any more soon

Wow, this is amazing, thank you guys! I may just be purchasing some this weekend. Emily, I’m hoping my lack of cats will help me with the hole poking problem :) Thanks for all the responses!

The trick to using them is making sure you don’t pack past the line on the bag and double checking the seal. They were great for moving my kids in and out of dorms because they have SO MAny clothes. The best use for them is off season stuff, not stuff you are needing to get into on a regular basis.

I looove my space bags!!! They are awesome and really work- they even have gigantic one for bedspreads which are awesome and they fit right under the bed. Girl- I spacebag everything!!! The only warning I would give you – is if you have a kitty that likes to hide under the bed- be prepared for their little nails (even if they are declawed up front) to put tiny holes that you cannot find in them!!! I say go for it. I too am always trying to save space having a smaller home. I am going to have to subscribe to your site- love it !!!
