a modern wall mount mobile

March 14, 2018 by Lindsey Leave a Comment

I wanted some sort of mobile for above his crib but I wanted something that would lay flat, not cost a fortune and was kind of unique to fit the room.
I landed on this because I liked the style and because I had all the supplies on hand. The paper was left over from my baby shower, had the scrap wood and the yarn was in my knitting stash.
I picked out the specific colors and patterns I wanted from the paper and started cutting a ton of triangles. Pretty sure I even recruited Al to cut triangles.
I cut the string to the lengths I wanted and laid them all out on a flat surface. I then laid out the triangles until I found a pattern that worked. I ended up altering the directions of the triangle point to add a little variety.
Once I had a pattern down I hot glued two triangles together with the yarn strung through the middle. I made each one double-sided so that if they twisted around you didn’t see the glued on yarn in the back.

To secure them to the wood piece I draped the yarn over the back of the wood and hot glued. I wanted it to look a bit industrial when hung so Al just used two dark-colored screws to secure it to the wall.

My favorite part about it is that it doubles as a cute wall hanging that I can leave up in the future! He’s always loved looking at it and even now that he’s older he’ll still stand up and look at it or touch it and his awe of it is the cutest thing ever.
