getting settled

March 21, 2011 by Lindsey 2 Comments

Long time no speak my patient readers! We’ve been busy getting settled, painting and updating our new place. I realized that it’s been 4 weeks since I last posted here and it just happens to be 4 weeks until my big marathon day. That’s right 4 short weeks to go. I can’t believe it’s almost here. More on that later. Back to the house.

We ran into quite a few hiccups while getting settled in the new place. Nothing unusual for us Thomasons, something always occurs, rarely does anything ever go smoothly. Here’s what we’ve dealt with in the past 3 weeks since we moved in.

It snowed on moving day. A joyous occasion. I hate snow with a capital H, so you can imagine when I woke up that morning I obviously just started sobbing because I knew it was going to make for a not so smooth move and I was right. It took much longer than it would have sans snow and it made for just one big giant mess in the old place and the new place.

We got to the new place and it was filthy. Filthy I tell you. The landlord did not have cleaners come in and basically told us he wasn’t going to. Insert another sob session here. The tenant before us had cats, another thing I hate with a capital H. Sorry cat lovers, they just aren’t my cup of tea. So there was hair everywhere, including IN the fridge. Gross. Thank god for great parents and sister who were ready to clean. I was too busy crying about it to take a photo of the filth but I’m sure you all know what dirty floors and cat hair look like.

After a long moving day we finally crashed that night. But, not before our bed crashed with us. Yes that’s right. The bed collapsed. The whole thing. At that point we couldn’t control our laughter because we were like honestly what more can this day bring. Another 30 minutes later the bed was back together and we slept soundly. Again, no photo. We live on two floors now and I was way too lazy to go downstairs and get the camera. Take my word for it.

We haven’t had laundry in nearly 8 months so we couldn’t be happier about our new laundry set up. On the second load of laundry the machine spun out of control shaking the whole house and jumping all around and then died. Just died right in front of us.

That resulted in the dryer hose disconnecting from the wall. I’m smaller than Al so I had to wedge myself in this cabinet to fix it.

The heat stopped working the day after we moved in. The only way we can get it to stay on is by doing this to the furnace:

Something about an automatic shut off that I’m not going to attempt to explain because I know it wouldn’t sound technical at all. It’s fine, this method works great.

All of those things aside, the house is starting to actually look like a home. Paint is on the walls, we’ve cleaned, we have furniture and you can almost see the counter tops. As we continue to progress I’ll be certain to share every step of the way.

Lastly, gosh this is a chatty post. I’ve given so few updates on the marathon training. It’s going great! I’ll be running my last long run this week of 22 miles and then I’ll start to decrease my miles leading up to marathon day. I’m thrilled that the days of running in 15 degree weather are over. It’s been quite a journey, a challenging one for sure. Thought I’d leave you with some photos of myself and how ridiculous one looks when they run in below freezing weather. I provided some good laughs for Al during this process.

The left is the full get up, the right is of me sporting my full running outfit donated from Ibex.

Thanks so much for being patient, we have lots to post about in the coming months so stay tuned. Happy Spring!

Glad to see you back Linds! So proud of all you have on your plate and you manage wonderfully! I think you deserve a few little meltdowns along the way, they are good for us, contrary to popular belief, and they have nothing to do with weakness! Keep it up and I can’t wait to see future updates!
