our custom, handmade desk

August 6, 2013 by Lindsey 2 Comments

It was a long while ago when I mentioned on a high five for Friday post about our new desk. I also even shared how I had lined the insides of the drawer.

Our friend Joe is an amazing woodworker. He has built some unbelievably awesome things and he uses all different species of wood and then mixes them within a specific piece. It’s so cool what he does. I had asked him about the possibility of building a desk for us that would fit the small space we had and he so kindly agreed to do so. I shared some ideas of the style we were looking for and the exact dimensions and no joke in I think three days he had the thing built and delivered to our apartment.

I can not speak to how he made it. I can tell you that I shared these plans from Ana Whites website with him. And then he built it. We had him use just basic wood since we knew we’d be painting it. Once it was complete we used an oil based white paint to finish it off.

It is the most perfect piece. He built a huge long drawer with built-in dividers too!

I love it so much because I know the design will fit any space in our future. It’s also a great size, not huge, but not too small.

Thing is, Joe works with some amazing wood species, so I’m thinking next up is something gorgeous with different woods. I just have to figure out what that piece might be. Joe?!
