DIY monitor stand {healthy work habits}

March 11, 2015 by Lindsey Leave a Comment

We’re clearly pretty passionate about healthy work stations. There has been so much research done about how bad desk work can be for you and your body, so why not try to help yourself, ya know?!

DIY Monitor Stand For Healthy Work Habits

While I love my custom-made desk, the positioning of my chair and monitor, plus some existing neck and upper back problems just wasn’t working out. What I needed was a monitor stand to lift it up a tad so I wasn’t always looking slightly down.

Monitor Stand Before

I made it by using a scrap piece of wood and four door stoppers. The door stoppers come in many different finishes, but I went with the ORB (oil rubbed bronze) ones. Shocking, right?!

Monitor Stand Wrapped With Fabric

First, I simply wrapped the piece of wood with some scrap fabric I had and secured it with small thumbtacks. I assumed I would just paint it white to match the desk, but I liked the added pattern from the fabric. You could also use a staple gun instead of small tacks.

I then added the four door stoppers in the corners and positioned it on my desk. My monitor fits perfectly on it and I can already tell that my neck and back are hurting a whole lot less. Also, how sweet is that mouse pad? I just ordered it on Etsy because my mouse was scratching up my desk. I love the added charm!

Next up, I’m thinking it’s back to the exercise ball as a chair. I’m going to be working from home a lot more, which means less physical activity of getting up and walking around a massive office. I’ve been contemplating one of these accordion chairs, has anyone ever used one?
